  9. There is only 1 archive file for this update. You must have version 3.0b
  10. currently installed on your hard drive before using this update installer,
  11. and you must have disk 1 of your original PageStream3 disk set available.

  13. If you currently have 3.0a, you need to first use these patches:
  14. - PS3BA1.LHA - you need this file to upgrade from 3.0a
  15. - PS3B2.LHA  - additional DMF fonts (see below)

  38. This is the second in a series of free update patches to PageStream3. This
  39. update implements more features and fixes problems with the initial
  40. release. We recommend not attempting tutorial lessons 2, 3 and 4 at this
  41. time because a few of the required features are not implemented. Lessons
  42. 1 and 5 can be done now.
  43.  
  44.  
  45. NOTES FOR LESSON 1
  46. - page 48, #1. Note that the Edit palette values will be blank when
  47.   scaling a drawing in this version of PageStream (will be fixed in 3.0d),
  48.   so you must check the rulers to determine the size of the drawing. The
  49.   final size of the drawing should be w:3", h:1"; however, a minor bug in
  50.   the scaling routine for drawings will make these values slightly
  51.   different in this version.
  52. - page 49, #1. You do not have to position the mouse pointer at the
  53.   precise coordinates because drawing objects with the grid on will snap
  54.   the start point to the closest grid point.
  55. - page 51, step 9. It is no longer true that 117% is the optimum view
  56.   magnification for 12 point body text. (That was true in v2.2, but not
  57.   v3.0.) The higher the magnification, the more readable the text, but 12
  58.   point type is quite readable even at Actual Size in PageStream 3.0. You
  59.   should still change to 117% for this lesson so that your work mirrors
  60.   the manual screenshots.
  61. - page 53, #3. The window will remain titled. In this version of
  62.   PageStream3, template windows are titled (but you are prevented from
  63.   accidentally overwriting them).
  64. NOTES FOR LESSON 5
  65. - page 94, #1. You must create a new document (the size is unimportant)
  66.   before starting this lesson.
  67. - page 94, #3. The text column frame will already be opaque, so you do not
  68.   need to change this option.
  69. - page 94, #4. If your text column frame has a gray background after
  70.   changing the color to Yellow, you are in four color mode. After you
  71.   finish #5, you may wish to use Settings/Screen to change to 8 or 16 color
  72.   mode.
  73. - page 95, #5. PageStream 3.0c records two more FILLED ON commands than
  74.   what is shown in the screenshot. This is normal; please ignore the
  75.   discrepancy.
  76. - page 97, #2. The point for selecting text can be the same as the text
  77.   column frame's top left corner, so you do not need to add 0.25i to each
  78.   coordinate as explained in the text.
  79. - page 100. Same as page 97. Just type:

  84. CHANGES FROM 3.0b TO 3.0c
  85.  
  86. PAGESTREAM2 DOCUMENT LOADING:
  87. - Expanded PageStream2.fontlist file that recognizes more PD fonts. If you
  88.   have not yet used the FONTLISTv2Analyzer, you should install this new
  89.   file. If you have previously used the FONTLISTv2Analyzer, you may want
  90.   to install this file and then use it again. (Not required though since
  91.   all of your fonts should be recognized.)
  92. - The Macros/Analyze FONTLISTv2 macro did not work in 3.0b but is now fixed.
  93.   If you used this macro to update your PageStream2.fontlist, you must
  94.   choose it again in this version because it did nothing last time.
  95. - Fixed problems with hanging outdents not being properly imported.
  96.  
  97. IMPORT/EXPORT:
  98. - Improved ASCII import filter quote conversion.
  99. - Fixed ProDraw Clip import line weight problems.
  100. - Implemented PageStream text code engine. Send to Editor for text now
  101.   works as advertised.
  102.  
  103. TEXT:
  104. - Text entry speed has been further increased. Typing text in a new frame
  105.   is twice as fast as 3.0b if the Edit palette is open, and 50% faster if
  106.   the Edit palette is closed. Having text attribute palettes no longer
  107.   slows down typing so text entry and editing speed is identical with the
  108.   Edit palette open and closed now.
  109. - Sped up rasterizing PostScript fonts. (The first time you use a PostScript
  110.   font at outline size, it will appear twice as fast as in 3.0b.)
  111. - Fixed the big text object bug. (Create a text object, delete it, create
  112.   another, crash.)
  113. - Obliqued PostScript fonts (ones that have the oblique bit set in the
  114.   font, such as most Futura and Uniform fonts) are now supported. (This
  115.   was added in the final version of the 3.0b update, in PS.font 1.0d.)
  116. - Fixed Paragraph Format, Right Indent.
  117. - Improved PostScript and Soft-Logik bitmap screen font scaling. (It was
  118.   not as good as v2.2 before, now it's better.)
  119. - Monospaced tracking is now implemented.
  120. - Changed default tab spacing to 0.333" as indicated in the manual.
  121. - Adding style tags will now update the palette lists.
  122. - Changed the default background of columns created with Create Columns
  123.   from transparent to opaque to make it the same as previous versions of
  124.   PageStream. (Users were confused by the grid and guides showing through
  125.   the column frames.)
  126. - Added support for PFM files as mentioned on page 14 of the manual. (Mac
  127.   Type 1 support is not done yet.) If you have a font with both AFM and
  128.   PFM files, you should generally use the PFM because it is smaller. (You
  129.   can delete the AFM if you wish.) You do not need to have both in the
  130.   directory, but the extra file will not cause a problem.
  131.  
  132. PRINTING:
  133. - Adding font re-encoding for PostScript printing. (In layman's terms, this
  134.   means that non-standard characters should now print. If you find characters
  135.   which still don't print, report the font type, font name and character
  136.   to us for testing.)
  137. - Changed the offsets for the HP, Epson and Fargo drivers. Offsets of 0,0
  138.   should now be suitable for most people. You MUST change your offsets in
  139.   the Printing Preferences requester or else your printing will be double
  140.   offset.
  141. - Fixed problems printing backslash characters to PostScript.
  142. - Made DMF fonts with spaces in their names print to PostScript. (ie,
  143.   Roman Bookface and West Side.)
  144. - Fixed the other A4 page size problem in the HP.printer driver.
  145. - Fixed potential crash problems with the Preference.printer driver.
  146. - Added more supported printer models to the Epson.printer driver.
  147. - Removed the 'M' printers from the HP driver model list. If you have a HP4M
  148.   4ML, 4MP..., you should use the PostScript driver, not the HP driver. If
  149.   for some reason you wish to print non-PostScript, use the corresponding
  150.   HP4, 4L, 4P... driver. (These were removed to avoid confusion.)
  151. - Stop gadget during printing is now implemented, but will not stop printing
  152.   until after the current object. (Just like 2.2.) Note that the progress
  153.   meter is not implemented yet.
  154.  
  155. MACROS & AREXX:
  156. - New commands: openbusyrequester, setbusyrequester, getbusyrequester,
  157.   closebusyrequester. (Look at the improved TechReport.REXX script for an
  158.   example of correct usage.)
  159. - getcoord macro works again. (This was used by the StickyNote script
  160.   which is why it didn't work in 3.0b.)
  161. - New parameters for: pasteobject, placegraphic, savedocument.
  162.  
  163. PAGELINER:
  164. - If you run it a second time (ie, if you use Send to Editor for text when
  165.   PageLiner is already started), it no longer presents a Shutdown/Cancel
  166.   requester.
  167. - Modified spell checker to ignore PageStream text codes.
  168.  
  169. MISC:
  170. - Save as Template is now implemented.
  171. - Fixed snap-to-grid problems. Objects should now snap correctly.
  172. - Fixed Paste command to paste objects in the center of the window rather
  173.   than the objects' original position.
  174. - Scrolling popup menu gadgets now scroll 10 times as fast instead of 4
  175.   times as fast when the mouse pointer is over the scroll arrow. This
  176.   makes it feel more responsive when you have a large number of fonts.
  177. - Scrolling popup menu gadgets now do not start to scroll when the mouse
  178.   pointer is over the up or down arrows until you move the mouse at least
  179.   2 pixels. This prevents the Font popup gadget in the Edit palette from
  180.   scrolling when it first opens.
  181. - Fixed a problem with Save As in which the internal document name would
  182.   not get changed.
  183. - BMP filter problems fixed.
  184. - Fixed some insertion point (cursor) redraw problems.
  185. - Fixed a memory problem when exporting macros.
  186. - Changed the weight of hairlines from 0 to 0.3pt as indicated in the
  187.   manual.
  188. - Fixed screen display and non-PostScript printing of bevel joins.
  189. - Adding a font path when it already exists will now update the existing
  190.   path.

  194. CHANGES FROM 3.0a TO 3.0b
  195.  
  196. TEXT:
  197. - Text entry and formatting is 50% faster in this version.
  198. - Paragraph Format: Left/First/Right Indent are now implemented.
  199. - Ctrl C and D special character shortcuts are now implemented.
  200. - Insert Character works again.
  201. - Default tab spacing has been implemented.
  202. - Cut/Copy/Paste in frameless text objects works now.
  203. - Keyboard shortcuts for moving the insertion point in frameless text
  204.   objects have been implemented.
  205. - Edit palette arrow gadgets for text size, width, tracking and leading
  206.   can now be used with a Shift key for greater precision.
  207. - Fixed the Convert Case commands.
  208. - Pasting a text wrapped object now updates text frames overlapping it.
  209. - Fixed the displaying of PS or DMF fonts at low magnifications or very
  210.   small sizes on screen which would offset them from their baseline.
  211. - Fixed Times Bold/Italic reversal on PostScript printers.
  212. - Fixed ASCII, FTXT, Excellence and Final Writer filters for problems
  213.   caused by converting more than 11 dashes.
  214. - Double spacing between sentences no longer permits the 2nd space to fall
  215.   at the beginning of a line.
  216. - Fixed all known problems for printing Compugraphic fonts to PostScript.
  217. - Linked frames on the same page should now update properly.
  218. - Fixed leading problem when the previous line had a larger point size.
  219. - Fixed problems with leading options in the Edit palette.
  220.  
  221. PRINTING:
  222. - Fixed color HP.printer DeskJet problems.
  223. - Fixed HP.printer PaintJet problems.
  224. - New Fargo.printer driver for the Primera wax thermal and dye sublimation
  225.   printer. (This will not work with the Primera Pro.)
  226. - Improved Epson.printer color printing to decrease saturation.
  227. - Corrected A4 paper size in HP.printer and Epson.printer.
  228. - Print requester options will now remain set from one print job to the
  229.   next during the current session.
  230. - Improved ordered dithering for HP, Epson and IFF ILBM printer drivers.
  231. - PostScript: error handler is now off as the default. If you have saved
  232.   your settings, you can speed up printing by turning off the error
  233.   handler in Printing Preferences and then saving your settings again.
  234. - Fixed color PostScript printing of certain pictures.
  235. - Fixed display and printing of the bold and italic variations of the
  236.   standard 35 fonts, by adding DMF files for these fonts. (This requires
  237.   the PS3B2.LHA archive.)
  238. - Fixed some problems printing drawings to PostScript.
  239. - Fixed printing multiple frames on one page to PostScript.
  240. - Fixed some non-standard character PostScript printing for resident fonts
  241.   and for downloaded Adobe Standard Encoded fonts.
  242. - Fixed HP.printer printing when the paper size was greater than 8.5x11".
  243.  
  244. PAGESTREAM2 DOCUMENT LOADING:
  245. - If you converted 2.2 documents to 3.0 with previous versions of 3.0,
  246.   each article will really be one paragraph. (New Line codes were inserted
  247.   instead of New Paragraphs. Refer to page 168 for info on new lines vs
  248.   new paragraphs.) This is somewhat important, because paragraph spacing
  249.   cannot be used if the entire article is one paragraph, and things like
  250.   automatic drop caps and bullets will only appear at the start of the
  251.   article. You can fix this by positioning the insertion point at the
  252.   start of each 'paragraph' (new line), then pressing Backspace and then
  253.   Return. Alternatively, if you haven't already made a change to the
  254.   document in 3.0, simply reload the 2.2 document into 3.0b to convert it
  255.   properly.
  256. - Text was being loaded with Track table set to Normal, which could change
  257.   line breaks. It now loads with Track table set to None.
  258. - Fixed the problem with PageStream2 text frames having multiple columns
  259.   on loading.
  260.  
  261. MACROS & AREXX:
  262. - added the sendtopageliner script.
  263.  
  264. MISC:
  265. - Loading a 3.0 document now preserves double-sided master page.
  266. - PageStream 2.2 documents now load unnamed.
  267. - Changed AmigaDOS 2.x color allocation to be more stingy with colors.
  268. - Text frame backgrounds now default to transparent instead of opaque. If
  269.   you have saved your Toolbox Preferences, you can change this and then
  270.   save your settings again.
  271. - Settings/Screen: if the Display DPI text gadgets are blank, PageStream
  272.   will use the default resolution for most standard screen modes now. This
  273.   is convenient if you often switch between screens of different standard
  274.   resolutions. If you enter values, it won't switch automatically.
  275. - Problems with moving drawings containing groups and lines are resolved.
  276. - Several of the filters have been reduced in size to save memory.
  277. - Fixed problems with master pages renaming to default.
  278. - Added a busy pointer when showing font samples.
  279. - Added the ability to change PageStream3's interface colors. Refer to the
  280.   Screen option in the Interface topic group in the main PageStream3 Help
  281.   screen for more information. You must download the PS3B3.LHA archive to
  282.   get the new version of the help files.
  283. - The Visual Reference gadgets in the Help system did not work under
  284.   AmigaDOS 2.x. The new help files in the PS3B3.LHA archive fix this
  285.   problem. Depending on when you received PageStream3 and whether you had
  286.   AmigaGuide on your system already, the WDisplay utility may not have been
  287.   installed in your Sys:Utilities directory. If it is not there and you have
  288.   AmigaDOS2, you should decompress it from the Guide.LHA archive on your
  289.   original disk 2.

  292. - New Emboss and Sharpen effects have been added! Refer to the help system
  293.   for information. (The new help files are included in the PS3B3.LHA
  294.   archive.)

  300. TEXT:
  301. - Frameless text objects implemented!
  302. - Eliminated extra text redraws when applying attributes!
  303. - Current attribute defaults are now implemented. (You can now place the
  304.   insertion point (cursor), change the font or other attributes, and then
  305.   type, without reverting back to Triumvirate.)
  306. - Edit palette arrow gadgets now repeat for text features.
  307. - Changed default alignment from justified to left.
  308. - Amiga keyboard shortcuts now work.
  309. - You now get a normal height cursor when you click in a frame.
  310. - Right indent tab are now done.
  311. - Stopped text from being displayed outside of its frame.

  313. PRINTING:
  314. - New custom Epson driver included!
  315. - HP color variants now supported.
  316. - Some Canon variants are now supported. Choose the Epson driver from the
  317.   Printing Preferences' Type popup, and choose the Canon model from the
  318.   Model popup. (These Canon printers are similar to Epson printers.)
  319. - Printing Compugraphic fonts to PostScript now saves the generated PFB
  320.   versions of the fonts on disk. This solves the timeout problem.
  321. - Improved Floyd-Steinberg dithering.
  322. - TO color percentage fixed for PostScript.
  323. - Collate now defaults to off.
  324. - Do Not Print flag (Edit palette, Object/Edit) now implemented.
  325. - Parenthesis problem (PostScript) fixed.
  326. - Multiple copy problem (non-PostScript) fixed.

  329. - Tab key problem fixed.
  330. - Enforcer hits on changing Edit palette modes fixed.
